Hello world!

Posted by osakaben41 on June 21, 2009

Hello all, and thanks for stopping by.  Just what the world needed, another amature food blog.  There are so many bakers out there doing amazing things, I just had to join up.  Assuming one day either my wife and I hit it big on the ponies or manage to raise offensively wealthy children I need to be ready to pursue pastry arts as a dilletant’s career.

Years ago I was able to take a week long class at the Institute for Culinary Education, aka Peter Kumpfs in NYC, and had an absolute blast.  From puff pastry to struedel dough, caramel to frangipane, it was a revelation.  What came out of that was the sense that baking is not unlike juggling.  You can read about it, watch it, and understand the history and principles behind it, but to get good, you just need to do it yourself, over and over again.

So that’s what this is, a rolling portfolio of projects, experiments, and practicing skill sets, such that ten, twenty, thirty years down the road, when some fool-hardy investor wants to bet on an untested talent, I’ll be there ready and waiting.  Worst case scenario, it’s a great way to spend some free time.
